How could I ever think it wasn't true... ?
Information overload is an issue every one of us has had to deal with at some point in their professional or personal lives. The usual feeling relating to overload relates to personal efficiency, to not being "good enough" for all there is to do, to lose grip and not to be able to return to a single point. In my experience, the absence of clear boundaries between personal and work life leads to situations that can make a mess out of otherwise calm and organised individuals. Work needs to end in the evening and make place to a piece of intimacy with oneself. In the evening, I want to be able to shut all my files, store my laptop in some part of the house and relax by drinking some tea or having a bath.
As Kazuo Ishiguro puts it (in a slightly different context, though), "the evening is the best part of the day". After working long hours, one needs to come back to oneself, focus on the person one truly is and leave the office mask aside. In the evening, colours are finally true.
Now is the time to face your lies
Open your eyes, open your mind
Proud like a God don’t pretend to be blind
Trapped in yourself, break out instead
Beat the machine that works in your head
(Guano Apes, Open Your Eyes)

yes, but how do-able is it? 'Cause just when you think "ok, i'll shut the files down now" you start thinking about them more and more.
On the other hand, in the entrepreneurs live, things are a little different as they tend to make the work part of their live as well. When you are an employee, I think the best deal would be to make the job itself during the day and leave the evening for thinking about personal stuff and for the profession itself. For example, don't think about XYZ you are doing at work, but it might be ok to think about consultancy as a subject.
after a day like this I had today, yr post sound like myself speaking loud to myself...
Just wanted to say I appreciate yr blog.
Love from someone who found her way here from Sweden.
Dear Ikka,
thank you for your kind words. It seems we share a common liking for Kent :-)
I started this blog as a sort of treatment against workaholism, to show that there are other things besides work that can bring peace. For me, they are music, movies, being nice to people and simply enjoying the little things in life that can make a difference.
Dear Mihai,
I see your point reg the entrepreneur's lives - their work becoming a part of who they are. I love my work as well, because I learn so much and because, despite some little bugs, it offers me satisfaction. But at some point it has taken over so much of my personal life, that I got confused and mixed the two up to a level of identification with one another. Not good.
I'll come back to this in some later post... Now it's time to enjoy a bit of laptop sunshine :-) Cheers!
Dana
